Catch the Cure, Minden!

A fundraising Event for Angelman Syndrome research

Minden Curling Club and Minden Arena, 55 Parkside Street.

Admission by Donation

Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a neuro-genetic disorder that affects the brain. This rare disorder causes children to be non-verbal, developmentally delayed, and to face epilepsy, sleep disorders, and movement disorders. On the plus side, they are also typically found smiling because they are happy, bright lights in our lives and the lives of everyone they meet.

Just because they cannot speak, does not mean they can’t understand you. And they definitely understand love.

There is an organization in the United States called FAST ( Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics) that is racing to find a cure. It is organized by Moms, Dads, and scientists that are very close to people who have AS, and who want to find a cure so much that they donate every penny of donations to FAST to research. Their initiatives have, in a very short time, uncovered remarkable science. And now, they believe they have a potential cure.

February 15th is International Angelman Day, a day to help our friends and family and strangers understand more about Angelman Syndrome, and help raise funds for a cure.

The Day’s Activities Include – A Silent Auction available from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Minden Curling Club. Plenty of toys and incredible gifts from local business owners, 5 different autographed hockey jerseys (Bernie Nicholls, Matt Duchene, Johnny Bower, Carey Price and one to be announced still), an autographed Nicholls stick, a scenic flight over Minden, a Pink Floyd box set, Leafs vs. Blues tickets or Sens vs. Colorado tickets, an autographed photo and autographed electric guitar from Foreigner and so much more. Free Skating from 5:30 – 7:30 with your family, friends, and anyone you can grab along the way.  There will be face painting, hot food, horse trailer rides, hot chocolate, a bake sale, and tables of kids selling their own crafts and used goods in order to raise money for a cure.
